Structured Cable Installation

Why a Cable Installation Contractor
is so critical to a residential project?

With today's savvy connected customers, full access isn’t just for the office anymore. Network cabling is the “norm” in new home construction these days. And the more expensive the house, the more communication and automation the customer wants at his fingertips. With that said, the company installing the cabling has one chance to get it into the wall correctly. Second chances don’t exist after the sheet rock goes up.

To correct problems created during rough-in, like poorly installed, damaged, or abused cable, requires ripping into walls to regain the desired performance and capability. During the trim-out phase, the quality of the materials as well as attention to detail of each termination is absolutely vital for communicating quickly and reliably. Poorly executed rough-in and trim-out represents a significant cost to correct and it negatively impacts the reputations of the installer and builder.

Most cabling contractors with significant experience and expertise restrict their services to the commercial market (high-rise offices, hospitals, etc.) due to the higher profit margins. As a result, residential installers tend to have much less knowledge of the full range of communications cabling products available in today’s market. Consequently, their design capabilities may also be more limited. While many electrical companies do offer similar services as an addition to their core competencies, they most likely have limited training on how to prevent performance shortfalls in the future as more demanding applications come along.
